NEWS FROM THE Y

COOKING FOR A CAUSE

YMCA of Michiana , Inc., announced yesterday that Andrew Berlin of the South Bend Silver Hawks has agreed to support the second annual Greatest Chefs of Michiana as the presenting sponsor of the event.

Greatest Chefs of Michiana 2012, to be held at Union Station on February 25, 2012, adjacent to Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium in South Bend, raises money to help children, families and older adults become involved in the many programs at the Michiana Family YMCA and YMCA Camp Eberhart, as well provide services to students in South Bend through YMCA Urban Youth Services and at the YMCA Innovation Delta.

“We’ve heard Andrew Berlin talk about how great our community is and now he’s putting thousands of dollars behind a worthy cause like ours to help make it even better,” commented Dan Asleson, president/CEO of the YMCA of Michiana.  “Obviously, he means what he says and we are delighted to be among the first to welcome him to town on the night of our event at Union Station.”

Greatest Chefs of Michiana pairs a dozen local restaurants with a dozen local celebrities to create new dishes that will compete for popular votes both prior to and during the event at Union Station on February 25.  Each of the dishes created by the teams will be available in the respective restaurants during the month of February, and for tasting at the event.

“In addition to the significant financial contribution by Andrew Berlin and the South Bend Silver Hawks, we are also happy to announce that ABC 57 has agreed to be our media sponsor in promoting the event,” added Asleson. “With the Silver Hawks and ABC 57, we are well on our way to another great year with this fun event.”

The purpose of the Greatest Chefs of Michiana 2012 is to raise money for programs at the Y and promote all aspects of healthy living – including the need to cook and eat healthy in order to stay fit and active, as well as generally raise awareness of the Y within the community.
