Welcome to the
The Michiana Family YMCA strengthens the foundations of our community through well-being and fitness, camps, family time, swim, sports and play, and other activities for people of all ages, incomes and abilities. We’re more than just a place to work out. At the Y, we help build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all with the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility at the heart of everything we do.
With a commitment to nurturing youth development, promoting healthy living, and fostering a sense of social responsibility, the Y ensures that every individual has access to the essentials needed to learn, grow and thrive.
23 January 2012
That was one tough workout this morning – at 5:50 am no less. Ten warriors came together to push themselves and each other. The thought crossed my mind that we were willingly subjecting ourselves to the Bataan Death March.
And then I got real.
Leonard Pitts, Pulitzer Prize-winning author whose column appears weekly in the South Bend Tribune, called for a return to reverence. He wrote in his column Sunday, January 22, that so much of our discourse has become ironic and irreverent.Lest we forget, the brave men who were forced to march witnessed unspeakable horrors.
I was a willing participant in an exercise program designed to increase my cardio-capacity and overall health. We all survived, of course. And we all encouraged one another to do the very best we could.
“If you don’t do it right, you won’t be getting the full benefit,” one member coached another.
Baltimore Ravens veteran defensive star Ray Lewis said after his team’s loss on Sunday that no one member of his team was the reason for loss.
"There is no one man who has ever lost a game," Lewis said. "Don't you ever drop your head; we win as a team, we lose as a team.”
And that is true for group fitness “relays”, or 5-time Indiana State champion swim teams, or kids climbing the high ropes at YMCA Camp Eberhart, or a community working together to create a better future.
We win as a team, we lose as a team.
The Y is a cause for strengthening community, committed every day to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. When you join our team, you take an active rol in bringing about meaningful, enduring change right in your own neighborhood.
We know that when we work together, we can move people forward. That’s why we are committed to providing support to our neighbors and opportunities for kids, adults and families to learn, grown and thrive.
We have committed to raising the graduation rates in Michiana. We have invested in innovative programs that enrich the educational experience for all kids. We challenge kids in science and math with the FIRST Robotics team and YMCA INNOVATION DELTA’s Aviation program. We give them the opportunity to express themselves with the “Spoken Word” program at the Y I.D. Kids learn their potential when they are allowed to safely explore nature at YMCA CAMP EBERHART and play freely afterschool or in sports programs at the MICHIANA FAMILY YMCA.
We have committed to lowering the obesity rate in St Joseph County. We engage our members in a number of ways to help them meet their wellness goals and to reach beyond their self-limiting beliefs.
We do that when one member lifts up another, and cheers her on.
We win as a team, we lose as a team.
Join us.
