Did you read in the South Bend Tribune? The YMCA of Michiana, Inc., beginning its 130th year of service to the community, announces a realignment of its leadership, around three areas of focus and operations.
Director of Youth Development
Karin Gilbert has been promoted to the new Director of Youth Development. Gilbert has been with the MICHIANA FAMILY YMCA for 5 years and has more than 13 years of experience caring for the academic, social and personal lives of children in Michiana. In her position as Director of Youth Development, Gilbert will be responsible for providing opportunities to children and teens to learn values, explore new interests, and realize their potential, through education, camp and leadership programs, gymnastics, swim, sports, and play. Gilbert holds a Bachelor's Degree from IUSB and YMCA of USA Leadership Certification.
Director of Healthy Living
Dani Elgas is the new Director of Healthy Living. She will work collaboratively with all areas of the YMCA OF MICHIANA, INC., promoting the importance of good health and well-being, as well as providing outreach programs in the community. Elgas earned a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science from Iowa State University and has certifications from American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as a Health/Fitness Specialist and the Chapman Institute as a Certified Wellness Program Coordinator. Elgas and her family recently moved to Michiana from Iowa, where she was the wellness director for the Scott County Family YMCA.
Director of Operational Excellence
Bringing renewed energy to the member experience at the MICHIANA FAMILY YMCA is Laney Dietrich, the new Director of Operational Excellence. Dietrich has been with the Y for two years and has a degree in Sports Management from the University of Toledo. She brings over 20 years in management and sales experience to the Y team, including having worked with World Gym, Gold’s Gym and she was the owner of ProAerobics in Toledo, Ohio.
Director of Social Responsibility
The new Director of Social Responsibility is John Morgan. A native of Queens, NY, he is charged with providing expertise in developing opportunities for partnership with academic, business and philanthropic leaders in Michiana. This includes oversight of the YMCA URBAN YOUTH SERVICES collaboration with the South Bend Community School Corporation as well as programs at the new YMCA INNOVATION DELTA serving “at risk” youth. Morgan holds dual degrees in Business Administration & Marketing from Morgan State University, Baltimore, MD and brings 15 years of executive management experience within Fortune 500 companies including GE Capital Card Financial Services, Panasonic Battery Corporation, Rubbermaid Home Products; and two years of non-profit leadership with the Boys & Girls Club. John shares a sixteen year marriage with Kellyann and three wonderful children.
