Lifeguard Training (American Red Cross)

In an American Red Cross Lifeguarding course you will learn all skills necessary to be a certified Lifeguard. American Red Cross Certification Purpose: To teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.

Successful completion of this training will give you the skills and knowledge necessary to prevent and to respond in water emergencies as well as certify you in American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Oxygen management. Register Online

Course Prerequisites

  • 15 Years of age on or before the final day of the course

  • 300 Yard swim using the Front Crawl and Breast Stroke with Rhythmic Breathing

  • Must be free from physical and mental impairments that would limit them from accomplishing specific tasks. Tasks include visual acuity, various audio ranges, and the ability to lift, unaided, 50 pounds.

  • 100% attendance is mandatory (NON-NEGOTIABLE). Each class will consist of classroom and pool activities.

  • Swim 20 yds, surface dive to 7 ft., retrieve 10 lb. brick, keeping both hands on the brick – return to starting point and exit pool.
Offered 2 weekends in the Spring Session (must attend both), Friday-Sunday May 4-6 & May 11-13. Summer sessions are 5 consecutive days: Monday-Friday June 4-8 or June 11-15.

Water Safety Instructor Training (WSI)

With American Red Cross (ARC) Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification you will develop the skills and knowledge needed to teach water safety, strokes (Beginner’s, Front/Back Crawl, Breaststroke, Butterfly), diving, and flip turns. Class fee includes ARC books. For ages 16 years and older.

CPR/AED Training

Become proficient with the skills required for your certification in CPR/AED emergencies. You will learn to perform CPR and rescue breathing, clear an airway, use an AED, treat choking victims and first aid skills. For ages 15 years and older.

First Aid & Oxygen Management

Learn to address basic first aid needs, how weather conditions affect people, and how to use oxygen in an emergency. For ages 15 years and older.

Re-Certification

This class is designed to keep your certification in CPR/AED, Lifeguarding and First Aid/Oxygen Management. Please come to class prepared. You must show your current certification card at the beginning of the class. Register Online

CPR/AED For Employers

Educate and certify your employees in CPR, AED , and First Aid in the workplace. An American Red Cross/American Heart Association certified CPR/AED instructor from the Y trains your employees on-site.
